Introduction
I am an Academic Clinical Fellow in Medical Oncology at University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and am 'Technology, AI and Simulation Research Lead' for the University of Cambridge Clinical Education Research Group. I studied Medicine at Trinity Hall, Cambridge with an intercalated degree in Management Studies from the Cambridge Judge Business School. Alongside my clinical work, I have worked with a range of research groups, committees and startups... and I’m always open to trying something new.
I have technical coding experience with R, Python and SQL fluency as well as operational experience working with early start-up companies and in policymaking circles, both in the UK and US. I have always sought to remain both technically proficient and actively engaged in real-world governance, through policy fora. My main area of interest is in artificial intelligence (AI) and big data in healthcare. I'm currently focussing on using synthetic data as a privacy-enhancing technology to open up secondary processing of routinely collected health data for research & development. This includes Co-Chairing the UK Synthetic Data Community Group, which is driving national standards for synthetic data policy, as well as being Co-Investigator on a grant to practically implement the technology locally.
I have published 50+ academic articles, conducted 80+ journal peer reviews, and provided expert review of funding applications e.g. for the British Heart Council and UKRI. Sat on NIHR funding panels, reviewing £10m's of funding applications. Also currently serving as Associate Editor of the Future Healthcare Journal (Royal College of Physicians) and Chair of HDR UK Impact Committee.
